The most romantic color, pink, is more tranquilizing. Sports teams sometimes paint the locker rooms used by opposing teams bright pink so their opponents will lose energy.” —http://www.infoplease.com/spot/colors1.html
Planes are amazing in my eyes. I love to watch them as they take off. The best part is, im writing this from seat 10f of a boeing 747. Before I go into my admiration for them, let me explain what this has to do with my design habits: I really want to rebrand an airline. How cool would that be. Making all the images gor the outside of the plane would be imense. So basically if you are a big CEO or an exec of an airline that wants to rebrand, call me.

I’m in egypt right now and still haven’t got a solid idea about my dissertation. It’s a pressing matter that is begining to worry me. I expected to see more type but I haven’t. The stuff I have hasn’t been anything to rave about, the only good part is Arabic script but ok in no position to judge as I don’t have the first clue about it. Lots of persian architecture but not much else. Boo.

A while back, I think it was in by first year of uni, I had a lecture on photography. It made me really think about photography in a way that has made me change my habits. The tutor said “cameras have become so popular an accessible that we have started to spend our lives behind a lens rather than living life.” I got told this when I was a bit of a myspace kid. Photos were uploaded by the bucket-loads and although I didn’t upload as many as my friends, I still put a fair few images on. I carried a camera everywhere and if it wasn’t a compact if always have my phone. I’ve been through many and I even got a phone that had a great camera on it so I could “capture those priceless memories”. Problem was that I wasn’t living them brcauelse I was always stuck behind a viewfinder. I’m writing this sitting on the beach in Egypt on my iPhone. What’s funny is that now I have to make a conscious effort to take a picture I end up writing or wanting to at least. This might be half to do with buying an slr so it’s larger than a compact and less practical, but for the quick snaps my iPhone does the job. But I much more enjoy bring there in the moment and recording it journal style. With the iPhone I can always take a quick picture and attach it to any sort of memory to.
Anyway I digress. I guess the main point is that I want to pass on the wise words of that tutor. Do you really need to take ridiculous amounts of photos all of the time. Why do we feel the need to publish intimate times? Besides the crap photos are clogging up the Internet, it’s making photographers life harder; everyone thinks they’re a professional and can’t appreciate what makes good photography.

Well the meeting went well. They loved the huge number of rotating images and a few things came up that we hadn’t thought about. Those are top secret so no previews I’m afraid. I didn’t realise how good their webstats were either. It’s some real traffic figures! The pressure is on though.
On a side note smile will be interviewed and featured on the new site. Sweet.
Had a nice chat about Eric Gill too which was interesting.
It’s all coming together now and I’ll be sad to leave the internship.

Bit worried about this one. Caroline obviously blogs for design week so knows about the whole thing and I don’t know what platform she uses. I asked how they wanted to approach posting to it as it’s deep in the hierarchy. I know there is an rss option in the cms but something like Tumblr intergrated via a pipe and posed by a desktop app would give more flexibilty and further options for migration in the future. We shall see what they say today.

My plan has always been to intergrate this into my site and after the type pipe I know excatly how to do it but it’s all about time. It needs a big push. I don’t have enough time before I go away and that is a shame because I now now where I wanna go with it. I will be using phpwcms. I never thought I’d say it but I acctually like it. And I can see the real potential in using it to manage a portfolio because it’s flexible. The internship has payed off :-D
I can wait to get started on it. Good times ahead.

I’m on the way to type right now and thinking about the site so far. I’m happy with the steady development but bummed that next week I won’t be able to touch it as I’m on my holidays. I don need the break though. Anyway, this site. I’m happy because I think it’s something that works an with the pipeline I’ve layed (geek joke, cone on) I think the interactive community can start. Twitter seems to have really taken off in Birmingham which is good for type because it means the network is already there to be plugged into and Twitter still has a long way to go.
Random image scripts have really helped to freshen certain pages an we have access to a great library of content. Now the homepage really is different everytine you access it. With a library of around 500 rotating images and a truly random script it should keep most people happy. I’m most looking forward to getting all of the content online so that I can get some top class advertising from krop and the deck in there. Then I can really push the networking. I’m twitching to start following people on Twitter.
I’m excited because I believe in the project. I believe that Type have something good, something substantial and I can’t wait to preach about it :-D

I got rid of importing my twitterfeed into this blog as my infrequent blog posts meant that this basically became a second twitter. Stalk me at www.twitter.com/nathansmonk
